WiMax is the most appropriate platform to bring broadband services in urban or rural. Target 50 million broadband users could be realized in 2015. But, unfortunately, less supported by the government.

WiMax Forum Indonesian Chairperson Sylvia Sumarlin called WiMax will not have to worry about displacing existing operators. Internet mobile technology will not be eroded mobile voice, because it's different segmentation services. "Although the WiMax technology such as VoIP, but there will still be more clear if we called up by using a mobile phone," he told yesterday.

But he cautioned forward a full mobile Internet technology with wireless broadband access (WBA) would indeed be very expensive and sophisticated, so it is possible the mobile industry will lose if it does not innovate.

"If the market is another talk later about this mobile technology, then it could be another story. But so far I think still are complementary, "adds Sylvia.

Vice President of WiMAX Forum, Dr. Mo Shakouri said Indonesia needs broadband access within the immediate and affordable to meet the needs of the market. However, from more than 150 million mobile subscribers in Indonesia, only less than half a million who have access to broadband connections.

"Though WiMax is the most appropriate platform to achieve the deployment of broadband services in central cities and rural areas in order to achieve its target of 50 million users in Indonesia in 2015," he explained.

Sylvia reveals, the target 50 million WiMax users in 2015 can be realized, because of technological developments can not be prevented. Moreover, to become an economically strong state, it must develop its local content. Local content that includes the application, and not just hardware or software alone.

He regretted the government had yet to provide support to the wireless telecommunications industry entirely, as evidenced from the 802.16d standard is still applied.

Whereas a number of local companies signed the Domestic Industry Preparedness Charter which marks the readiness of equipment manufacturers to support the implementation of Homeland WiMax.

"We still recommend that the government's telecommunications industry using 802.16d, 802.16e but by no means rule out the already used many developed countries. Even apart 802.16e, even if the device 16m Indonesian market is ready, it is not impossible to launch 2-3 more years, "adds Sylvia.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Telecommunications Society (Masterl) Setyanto P Santoso said the telecommunications industry in the country is actually already requires 802.16e for various video applications and data services, animation, and sound more sophisticated.

"If the government really serious then do not have to wait for the perfect research for technology transfer. Operators are also challenged by the government, "he said.

Head of Public Relations Gatot S Dewa Broto Depkominfo when contacted denied terpisah.COM less government support BWA in Indonesia. He states 802.16d encouraged to domestic products, while still an international 802.16e and 802.16m.

"We have not been able to provide current license to provide service for existing devices industry is still using the 16d, not just a service provider," he explained.

Billy called 802.16e has not been able to be used instead. Since two years ago, is ready, but the government saw the overall industry is still using 802.16d chipset.

He cited the deployment of WiMax has been on schedule. Companies that win the tender BWA is currently doing technical preparations after making payment obligations. "Maybe just six months may be granted license to provide," he explained.
