Advantages:
When compared with dial-up
· Fast as broadband access
· IP numbers can change, such as Dial-Up Access
· Can access anywhere, provided in hotspot areas
· Cheap, fast and flexible
· Umbrella for many users in a hotspot.
Disadvantages:
· To use the WiFi we must exist in an area accessible by WiFi or the term 'hotspot'.
· WiFi coverage area is still small, the signal can not penetrate walls.
· Access Point is more easily infiltrated by a virus
· Bugged easy data exchange
Wimax anything what advantages and disadvantages?
Advantages:
· Fast as broadband access
· Infrastructure development much faster and cheaper than broadband access
· Wider coverage area than WiFi and broadband access
· WiMAX will be complementary as well as the new challenger is now mainly on wireless technology
· Target new markets for companies that carry out the wireless
Mikrolektronik · The producers will get a new land to be done
· End users will get much choice in the internet. WiMAX is one technology that can facilitate us to connect to the internet easily and quality
· It has many features that so far there has not been on WiFi technology with IEEE 802.11 standards
° from its coverage only in terms of achieving the maximum 50 kilometers, WiMAX has a very large contribution
Disadvantages:
· As happened with other countries in the world, the Indonesian government had not determined the frequency of WiMAX that will be used. Most likely the first vendor to make WiMAX devices in the 3.5 GHz frequency. While in Indonesia, the frequency is also used for satellite communications. Therefore necessary to determine the appropriate frequency range to good advantage for operators, regulators and users.
· Price infrastructure equipment that is still very expensive
· Technology is still evolving and hold, so that investments can go wrong.
· Too many types of devices that are not mutually compatible.
· It takes experience to install devices
Having trouble will face another Indonesian people that legislation is not yet ready to adapt this technology for WiMax devices if manufacturers had to make a PCMCIA card or USB-based nomadic using WiMax standards, the device will be easy to get anywhere.
